Salim’s work is an extension of his mother tongue: the Moroccan Darija. A widely spoken language yet with no official rules or dictionary that easily changes and absorbs words from other influences.

In Darija, it is common to start a sentence in one language and finish it with another. Salim’s practice functions like that: it might start with making sculptures with virtual clay and end up buying a flight ticket to a stranger met online to meet in him in Athens for a weekend.

Ultimately, it is about practicing code-switching to quickly respond to his context and go beyond what we usually pin down too fast.

He is half of the music duo [BAZOGA ](https://open.spotify.com/artist/7gWB0bPF9UJa1SpdIMgrr9)and used to be a resident at the Rijksakademie. Salim showed his work in spaces such as W139 (Amsterdam), Galerie van Gelder (Amsterdam), Alyssa Davis Gallery (New York), ADN Gallery (Barcelona), Azkuna Zentroa (Bilbao), HWK (Berlin), GVCC (Casablanca), and La Capella (Barcelona). He received the Charlotte Köhler prize in 2022 and is represented by [Galerie Van Gelder](http://www.galerievangelder.com/artists/bayri2.html).
